Physical Setting
The Rio Grande is the natural borderline between the U.S. and Mexico. It starts in the Canby Mountains in Oregon and flows out to the Gulf of Mexico in Texas and Mexico after a long journey of 1,896 miles. After flowing through the mountains, the land begins to level out and begins to meander. At this stage the Rio Grande passes through mostly desert land until it reaches sub-tropical lower Rio Grande Valley, where there is most of agriculture and greenery because of the flood plains. At the last leg of its journey, the Rio exits through a sandy delta into the Gulf of Mexico.
